Uganda’s Forests Cannot Wait!
Uganda’s forests continue to decline due to agricultural expansion, charcoal production, and increasing land degradation, resulting in far-reaching environmental and socio-economic consequences. The loss extends beyond trees alone, contributing to declining rainfall patterns, degraded soils, loss of biodiversity and wildlife habitats, and reduced ecosystem services that many rural communities depend on for their livelihoods and resilience to climate change.
Addressing this challenge requires more than ambition or short-term interventions; it demands professional implementation, science-based restoration approaches, transparent monitoring systems, and strong community partnerships. IFG delivers this through high-integrity restoration and forestry projects designed to create measurable, credible, and long-lasting environmental impact, project by project and hectare by hectare.

WHAT MAKES IFG DIFFERENT
Restoration You Can Verify.
In an era where many restoration initiatives make ambitious tree-planting commitments, the IFG distinguishes itself through transparency, accountability, and scientifically verifiable restoration. Beyond planting trees, IFG utilizes advanced digital monitoring systems to track every individual tree in real time, generating reliable data on survival rates, growth performance, and carbon sequestration to provide partners with measurable impact, credible reporting, and long-term confidence in restoration outcomes.

On the Ground Across Uganda.

From the Victoria Basin forest-savanna mosaic ecoregion to the Somalia-Masai Acacia-Commiphora bushlands and thickets ecoregion, IFG implements restoration and forestry initiatives across diverse ecological landscapes, community settings and environmental contexts. Each project is designed as a long-term landscape restoration commitment focused on ecological integrity, climate resilience, biodiversity conservation and sustainable community impact rather than short-term tree-planting activities.
Key projects and interventions include the following:
- Integrated Agroforestry and Reforestation Carbon Removal Project (IAR-Carbon), Nwoya District: A 100-hectare restoration and agroforestry programme forming part of a broader 1,000-hectare landscape restoration initiative focused on carbon removal, ecosystem restoration, climate resilience and community-based agroforestry development.
- Obel Conservation Forest Project: Restoration and conservation of 100 hectares of degraded woodland ecosystems aimed to enhance biodiversity conservation, ecological recovery and long-term landscape protection in the Nwoya District.
- Bamboo Value-Chain Development Programme: Implementation of sustainable bamboo production, restoration, and green enterprise development initiatives across Luwero, Nakaseke and Hoima Districts to support climate-smart livelihoods and sustainable raw material supply chains.
- Commercial Plantation Forestry Portfolio: Establishment and management of sustainably operated commercial forest plantations across the Nakasongola, Kayunga, Luwero and Gomba Districts for timber production, carbon sequestration, land restoration, and long-term forestry investment.
